NJPW World Tag League Night Four Review

Night four of World Tag League and we’ve got some Young Lions in action. I’m a Lion lover, though, so that’s A-okay with me. I’m not going to chatter away for too long here. Let’s dish out some stars.

Killer Elite Squad (Lance Archer and Davey Boy Smith JR) (2) defeated David Finlay and Katsuya Kitamura (0)

It’s easy to forget that David Finlay is a good wrestler. Kitamura feels like the star of this team, and I don’t think that is Finlay’s fault. New Japan does absolutely nothing with him. In a year when the Heavyweight Tag Division has been thin could he not have teamed up with someone and gone after the belts? Just give him something to do.

Anyway, this match was okay. Kitamura was the highlight, and he and Archer did some big boy wrestling. A chop battle didn’t go Archer’s way and he was then military press slammed by the trainee, which was damn impressive. Killer Elite Squad are two of the only men in the company who are bigger than Kitamura, and he still stood his ground.

Of course, there was only one way this was going to end and that was with the tag champs beating the Young Lion and the guy who might as well still be a Young Lion. It was decent while it lasted but I wouldn’t seek it out.

Verdict: Two And A Half Stars

War Machine (Hanson and Raymond Rowe) (2) defeated Togi Makabe and Henare (0)

Tonight is all about the big boy wrestling and these two teams went right at it from the start. The day I fail to enjoy War Machine’s offence should be the day I give up on wrestling.

I feel sorry for Henare. As a general rule, The Young Lions will be doing most of the selling for their teams. However, he’s in there with Makabe. He won’t be doing most of the selling, he’ll be doing all of it. This went about ten minutes and Makabe spent a minute and a half as the legal man. In that time he took one move. He popped in as the illegal man a couple of times and that was it. Togi is a pro at avoiding hard work.

This was nothing to write home about and at best it was a good run out for Henare following his injury. I hope he is fully healed because I get the impression this will be a long tournament for him.

Verdict: Two Stars

Overall Show

This was a very meh show. I love War Machine and enjoy watching the Young Lions but I only finished watching it recently and it’s already sliding from my brain. Like most of these World Tag League outings so far, feel free to skip it.
