Roadblock

In an unusual move, WWE has decided to hold a live Network special during the build-up to WrestleMania. It means that this Saturday, we have Roadblock, an almost mini-PPV that has thrown up a few interesting matches. While there is a case to be made that having to promote another event during the Road to WrestleMania is a mistake, it is happening now, and as I always do, I feel like I have to give my thoughts on what will be occurring.

The Revival vs. Enzo and Big Cass

This is, strangely, the match I am most intrigued about at Roadblock. Big Cass and Enzo have been talked about as potential main roster call-ups for a long time and yet they’ve still to hold the NXT Tag Titles. Do you want their first exposure to the wider audience being them losing to the good, but slightly less exciting, Revival? I don’t think so. On the other hand, the night after WrestleMania, where The New Day will presumably retain their titles yet again, seems the perfect time to bring that team up, so do you want them to come up with the belts and do double duty? Ultimately, I think that’s the best option. You introduce them as a strong team and they get instant respect. The Revival are solid wrestlers and have been good champs but it is time for them to hand over the gold.

Brock Lesnar vs. Bray Wyatt

I can’t look at this match without getting frustrated. Because of course Brock is going to win, but damn could Bray use it. It is looking like this WrestleMania will be a write off for the Wyatts and we will all sit around and curse how badly they have been booked, yet again. It is time to have Bray and co to disappear for a bit, regain that mystique and come back all the stronger, but I just can’t see that happening. It will be interesting to see how they book him in defeat, though. Does Brock toss him around like he has everyone else or does Wyatt’s voodoo come into play? Either way, Brock smash.

The New Day vs. The League Of Nations

The League of Nations are a slightly more respectable Social Outcasts, and there is no chance in hell they take the belts off the wildly popular New Day. The only reason this is interesting is because it seems to suggest The New Day will be working face. I hope such a switch doesn’t see the act lose its edge. Whether face or heel those guys should keep doing what they are doing and let the crowd respond to it, however, they see fit.

Triple H vs. Dean Ambrose

Dean Ambrose winning the title here would be fascinating. However, there is more chance of The Boogeyman returning to play a part than Triple H giving up the big shiny belt just a few weeks before WrestleMania. He has his hands on that main event slot, and he is not going to give it up. Yet there is nothing to be gained here by having him beat Ambrose easily. Dean has a big match with Lesnar coming up and they need to keep that hot, so I think this one ends in shenanigans. We will see Brock and we will see Roman and everything will break down. It could well plant the seeds for any eventual Dean and Roman split and this could be a match that leads to important things further down the line. On the night, Hunter keeps the belt.

Random Predictions

  • Goldust and R-Truth do something; it is awful.
  • The Social Outcasts do something,; it is awful.
  • Brie Bella, Lana and some other Divas are thrown together into a multi-woman match, it lasts two minutes and may not be awful, but certainly isn’t great.
